Hello all! Welcome to the November newsletter. The fishing season has wound down here at Halley’s Camps, lodges and outposts, but the hunting season has been in full swing since the last newsletter! We have had many successful hunting parties during the past month or so! We have had some weather issues to deal with, but all in all it has been a fantastic autumn. No snow as of early November, but soon we will be covered by a blanket of the white fluffy stuff! Below are a couple of great fishing photos from this past season!

Hello one and all and welcome to the Halley’s Camps, Lodges and Outposts October News. Who amongst our readers knows what a Triple Crown Fishing Trip is? Well, that is what we call it when an angler is able to catch a trophy fish in 3 species, in one trip. We have had a few of these trips here at Halley’s. This past September we have had one of our long time guests have a TRIPLE CROWN DAY! Actually, all three of his trophy fish were caught in a SINGLE MORNING!!!

Long time guest David Freers calls it a grand slam morning, but no matter what you call it, I’ll bet you dollars to doughnuts that it was a great time out on the water! His trophies included a 19″ smallmouth bass, followed by a 41″ northern pike, photo included below, and then to round things off he caught a 27″ walleye, and all were caught before noon! David has been coming to Halley’s for 30 years and always comes in September for the fantastic fishing.

The story is not done there though. A few days prior to David’s Grand Slam, or Triple Crown, He and his fishing pal Bill Angell went on a muskie fly out with George to our muskie lake. A total of 14, yes, 14 muskies were caught on that particular day. David says that is is one of the best muskie days ever… I’ll say!

Welcome to the Halley’s Camps, Lodges and Outposts September Newsletter. We have had a fantastic season, thanks to all of our valued guests and friends! Countless numbers of anglers have graced our waters this summer - among them were many family groups, many couples, lots of old fishing buddies, fathers and sons, a few corporate groups ranging in numbers from 20 to 38, and several trips that were taken for their sons and daughters as high school graduation gifts. Whatever the purpose of the trip, we served up a great helping of good old fashioned Canadian hospitality! Coupled with the great fishing, we hope that everyone had a fantastic time! Summer is not quite over yet, though. We are still going strong throughout much of September. Fall fishing vacations are a great way to end out the summer… and the fishing is second to none!

Shorelunch for 50 coming right up! Acutually, there were 38 guests and their guides plus a group of the day staff from the lodge along to “help out”… no problem!

Greetings from Ohio,

I have attached some pictures of our Caribou Falls vacation this summer. The trip was my son’s college graduation gift and he enjoyed catching lots of fish, including eight trophies! I included a picture of his very first fly in trip when he was 9-years-old and a couple from this summer…14 years later. (He has made several trips in between!)

Thank you for the hospitality!

We had a fantastic trip! We were very satisfied with every aspect of the trip, including great fishing, facilities, service, food, guide service, staff helpfulness, friendliness, and commitment to making our experience the very best that it could be! We caught 2 trophy Northern Pike, 3 trophy smallmouth bass, several near trophy walleye, and boated around 450 fish in our 5 days of fishing.

Thanks for everything and we look forward to returning to Halley’s Camps next summer.

Sincerely,

Hello all and welcome to the August news. All is good up here at Halley’s, and summer is swinging right along… Had some fantastic folks come on up and stay with us, many of the great old usuals, plus a flurry of new fishing parties have become hooked on Halley’s Camps! The fishing has been steady, and we have a pretty thick log of registered trophy catches to date!

The wildlife viewing has been unbelievable this summer out on the lake. We have had sightings of bear, moose, and plenty of loons and eagles. The funniest of them all was the mallard drake at Kettle Falls wandering around with two hens in his wake. And, last but not least was the lynx sighting. This lynx was spotted crossing the water one afternoon in mid July by some of our usual summer guests.

The latest project at Kettle Falls Lodge… A shore lunch shelter is being constructed onsite for use on those “not so sunny” days. Once the main pavillion is finished, there will be fire pits added around the edges for cooking and warmth.

Things are really hopping now at Halley’s Camps, Lodges and Outposts, including the fishing! The weather has been great, mostly fair days, not too hot, and mostly sunny! Of course we still do have the occasional rainy day, but the fish don’t seem to mind at all! And, without rain, we are always concerned about the dryness in the forest and fire bans, but that has not been a problem this year. We have had a lot of great photos sent in from happy anglers, and I have included a selection for you. More photos can always be seen on our photo gallery pages, and updates are done whenever we have a few moments to sit at the computer!

As always, it is so nice to hear great comments about our business. Here are a few from our recent guests:

Just for the record…. we had 5 trophy Smallmouth this trip (and we weren’t even really trying), a trophy Northern (and, too many 34? to 37.5? to count), and a 43? muskie at Irregular (and, it is true… the northerns in Irregular are the toughest fighting fish I’ve ever experienced). By the way, we even caught 58 walleyes right off the dock at Kettle in just under 90 minutes….. WOW! We’ve already booked our return trip for ‘09….. ” Steven Zaudtke

“Looking forward to next year! You guys do an outstanding job.” Warren Laird (Sharpstone Lake Outpost)

“Great times this year as always.” Joe Dobbs

Neal’s head is so big after catching a 41 inch Northern, I can’t believe it. Phyllis and Jamie caught the biggest walleyes while I quietly guided the boat…We look forward to seeing you July 2nd…Thanks to all your staff, they are the best.” Doug & Phyllis Prantner

As of May 1 leaf buds are starting to show on the once barren trees. By mid May the leaves should all be unfurling in that one of a kind bright green hue that we all enjoy so much each spring. By the end of May any signs that the foliage has been all but non-existent through the long winter months will have vanished. The birds are singing, the grass is green, and the sun is high in the sky! We have included some great photos that showcase the beauty of our area. Hope you enjoy them as much as we do! Thank you to our guests who have graciously provided them for us!

All is well with the Halley family. We are getting anxious to get back out to “camp” and get back into the swing of things. The airplanes should be back in the water in the next day or so, and they will be ready and waiting for your arrival! We are looking forward to greeting all of our guests, both the old hats and the first timers! Just a reminder, if you haven’t already done so, please get us your travel plans and flight itineraries so that we can get you into our transportation schedule. We do like to have as much of your trip prearranged and prepared for even this early in the season. Even though we are pretty good at going with the flow, some days the logistics of the three lodges and 12 fly in outposts can be mind boggling!

Once again the countdown is on to the opening weekend for fantastic walleye fishing at Halley’s! We hope everyone is as excited as we are about the end of winter and are dreaming about big spring walleye! Of course we have all managed to take a day off and make time to get out at least once or twice this past winter to do some ice fishing and snowmobiling - It can’t be all work and no play! All the same, though, because we enjoy what we do! Pictured left: Chris drills a hole in a likely spot for some fast action. Pictured right: Look! I caught a walleye! And: Are you surprised?

At the writing of this post, the flooring is going in, the painting has been completed where needed, and the project is getting closer and closer to completion with each passing day. Check out the photo on the left… Doesn’t it look fantastic? As well, George has been up to Kettle Falls Lodge to check on things there, and is taking care of repairs to the boat dock. And, last but not least, the guys have been taking side trips to the outposts to make sure that all is well on those fronts. Pictured right: Those are some pretty fancy hats you all have on!

We all know that each group has their favourite weeks to come on up for their fishing vacation, but for those of you who are autumn people, September is the perfect time to spend a relaxing, end of summer vacation at Halley’s Camps, Lodges, or Outposts. The weather is great, the scenery is fantastic, and the fishing is out of this world! Pictured left: Wait! I know I can catch one more! Pictured right: Now THAT is a fish!

Give us a call at 1-800-465-3325 and let’s go fishing!

Welcome to the Halley’s Camps, Lodges and Outposts March Newsletter. We hope that everyone has had a safe and happy winter! In these parts, March is the month of the big melt (we hope!). The temperatures are warming, and already we can notice a change in the quality of our snow! One of the things we always used to take note of was the weather on the first day of March - following the old adage “In like a lamb, out like a lion”, or vice versa. This year, March 1st dawned clear and cold, but by the end of the day was overcast with a few snow flurries, so it was decidedly lion-like. That means that we can expect some lovely spring weather for the first of April!

Caribou Falls Landing Construction Photos: A few shots of the construction of the new 3,200 square foot lodge have finally arrived on my desk, taken the end of February… These photos do not really give the project the justice it deserves, but I thought that I would share them with you anyway! Things are moving along swiftly now. The flooring has been ordered, the finishing is happening, and soon it will be time for the big job of installing the fixtures and furniture. The best part will come when we can finally decorate and restock!

Again this photo was taken from the dining area in the new lodge. The first set of stairs leads to the kitchen. The second set of stairs leads to the new store area. Up the third set of stairs in the distance is the office area, and a view of what will be the bait and tackle shop. The windows on the far end wall in the bait and tackle shop are oriented towards the back bay and yard. To give an idea of the size of this room, you can just see a bit of Rob standing in the photo at the right.

Greetings one and all and welcome to the Halley’s Camps, Lodges and Outposts February Newsletter. All is well in our neck of the woods! We have all been enjoying the winter and plugging away with our various chores and projects, including the new lodge at Caribou! As well, we have winter guests at One Man Lake, enjoying a great weekend getaway at the Lodge. It is the perfect place to spend time relaxing, fishing or snowmobiling!

The photo on the left was taken by Wanda on a recent trip to One Man Lake Lodge. While out for a walk, she found this old poplar tree with these shelf like fungal growths. On the growths is accumulated snowfall that had piled up against the tree. An interesting photo!

On the right are photos that were taken by the guys on a past snowmobile trip up to Wingiskus to check on the cabin. Hope they let the younger fellows shovel all that snow off of the deck!
